Christmas Catering for 20 Pax in KL

Christmas buffets in KL start at 50 guests. Here is what a party of 20 actually costs, and which festive set fits…

Summary: iDoCatering prices its Christmas buffets per guest from 50 guests upward, so a party of 20 in KL is served by the Christmas party sets instead: RM 799.00 or RM 1,099.00 per set, each feeding 12 to 15 people and delivered ready to serve on disposable tableware. Two sets cover 20 comfortably. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day both carry a 20% food surcharge, and December weekend dates close first.

Almost every Christmas catering page in Kuala Lumpur is written for fifty guests or more. If your list is twenty — one team, one family, one office floor — the per-guest rate in those quotations is not actually available to you, and it saves a week of back-and-forth to know that before you start asking.

This page sets out what a twenty-guest Christmas spread really costs in KL and Selangor, which format fits, and what changes if your date is the 24th or the 25th.

Can you get Christmas catering for 20 people in KL?

Yes, but not as a per-guest buffet. iDoCatering’s Christmas buffets are priced per guest and start at 50 guests, so a party of 20 is served by the festive party sets instead: the Christmas Epic Party Set at RM 799.00 or the Christmas Treasure Party Set at RM 1,099.00, each serving 12 to 15 guests and delivered ready to serve. Two sets cover a party of 20 with room to spare.

What are the Christmas options for a small group?

Three: one Christmas party set topped up with extras, two party sets, or a non-festive mini buffet. All three are delivered ready to serve, and none of them needs a buffet line, a chafing dish or a waiter — they differ in how much food arrives, not in how it reaches the table.

One party set with extras

The Epic set brings eleven courses for 12 to 15 guests. Stretching it to 20 means adding from the optional extras listed on the package page — the dessert cups and additional platters are priced individually and travel with your enquiry. This is the cheapest route, and it works best when the party is a two-hour gathering rather than a full dinner.

Two party sets

Two Epic sets come to RM 1,598.00 and feed 24 to 30, which is the safe choice for twenty guests who will actually sit and eat. Mixing one Epic and one Treasure set gives a wider spread — the Treasure set carries thirteen courses including the squid ink paella and the eight-hour braised brisket — for RM 1,898.00.

A mini buffet, without the festive menu

If the Christmas menu matters less than the format, the Party Box is RM 599.00 per set for 10 to 12 guests from the year-round menu. Two boxes feed 20 for RM 1,198.00. You lose the festive dishes; you keep the budget. Our guide to mini buffet catering in KL and Selangor covers that range in full.

How much food do you need for 20 guests?

Size the order to your confirmed headcount, not to an average of it. iDoCatering prepares portions on a one-to-one ratio — we cook for the number you confirm and no more, and no spare tray travels with the order. For twenty guests that means two party sets rated at 12 to 15 each, rather than one set stretched across the room. If the list grows, raise the count with us before the event rather than on the day.

The second variable is how long people stay. A two-hour canapé reception needs noticeably less than a sit-down dinner, and that is usually what decides between topping one set up and ordering two.

How much does Christmas catering for 20 guests cost?

Between RM 1,198.00 and RM 1,898.00 before delivery and 6% SST. Two Christmas Epic Party Sets come to RM 1,598.00; one Epic plus one Treasure set is RM 1,898.00; two non-festive Party Boxes are RM 1,198.00. A per-guest Christmas buffet is not available at twenty guests — the cheapest one starts at 50.

An order of two party sets sits under RM 2,500, so it is paid in full on confirmation rather than on a deposit schedule. Current offers are shown on each package page. Why do Christmas buffets start at 50 guests?

Because a buffet line is priced on the spread, not on the head. A Christmas buffet puts eighteen to twenty-one courses on the table, and each one is cooked, transported and presented whether twenty people eat it or eighty. Below about fifty guests the per-guest arithmetic stops working: you would pay buffet money for food that goes home uneaten.

Party sets exist precisely to solve that. They carry a smaller, fixed selection built to be finished by the group it is sized for, which is why they are sold per set rather than per guest.

What do Christmas Eve and Christmas Day add to the price?

Both dates carry a 20% surcharge on the food menu and double manpower charges. Christmas Day 2026 falls on Friday, 25 December and is a Malaysian public holiday; Christmas Eve on Thursday, 24 December is the holiday eve, so the surcharge applies to both. On two Epic party sets that is roughly RM 320 on the food alone.

Moving the party to the weekend of 19–20 December, or into the first week of January, avoids it entirely. That is the single largest saving available on a small festive order.

How far ahead should a small Christmas party be booked?

Orders should be placed at least three days before the event, but December does not behave like the rest of the year. The weekends before Christmas and the 24th and 25th themselves are the first dates to close, and a small order competes for the same kitchen and the same delivery slot as a 200-guest one. Two to three weeks ahead is realistic for a December date.

What is delivered, and what do you set up?

A party set arrives ready to serve with serviettes, a disposable tray, plates, cups and cutlery included at no charge. There is no buffet line to dress and no waiter: you put the trays out and your guests help themselves. Every dish is prepared using 100% halal-certified ingredients, and vegetarian options can be planned in — tell us when you enquire.

Chafing dishes, table skirting and waiter service belong to the buffet set-ups and are not part of a delivered party set. If you want a dressed table and someone to tend it, you are back in buffet territory and therefore at the 50-guest minimum.
